BIOservicES Project @European Mission Soil Week 2025

From November 5 to 6, we participated in the European Mission Soil Week held at Aarhus University in Denmark, where stakeholders from across Europe gathered to discuss the future of soil health and sustainable land management.

Our colleagues at BIOservicES, Virginia Sánchez Navarro, Researcher at Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT), Iuliana Floricică, CEO & Co-founder June Communications, and Chiara de Notaris, Researcher at CMCC Foundation, attended the event and exchanged valuable insights on promoting soil health.

Key highlights:

• EU leaders emphasized investing in soil for a greener future;
• A panel discussion on how innovation and finance can transform soil restoration into a viable business;
• The launch of new #MissionSoil Ambassadors and collaboration with EIT Food to enhance soil literacy and foster resilient farming practices.

On the first day, we also participated in the Projects Trail session, where attendees visited seven stands showcasing results from Mission Soil-funded projects. Virginia Sánchez Navarro briefly presented the BIOservicES project, emphasizing the crucial role of soil organisms in supporting ecosystem functions at various scales and their importance amid land use changes and climate pressures. A Q&A session with insights from Iuliana and Virginia followed this.

During the Projects Trail, we shared our presentation stand and a #Biodiversity corner with Simon Jeffery from our sister project SOB4ES, engaging visitors through interactive activities and rewarding the most curious participants.

Finally, through sessions, exhibitions, and networking events, we had the pleasure of connecting with colleagues from the InBestSoil project and discussing practical next steps together. Last but not least, what is worth mentioning is that the EU Mission ‘A Soil Deal for Europe’ offers a valuable opportunity to foster collaborations and enhance communication with other ongoing Horizon Mission Soil projects, promoting data comparability and amplifying scientific impact.
